Conversion of workshop to new dwelling Plaxtol

Rose & Crown Cottage Plaxtol kent

The owners of a Grade II listed rural property near Plaxtol were concerned it would not be easily converted to  accommodate their mobility needs as they got older. Not wishing to move from the nut orchard they have lived with over the last 30 years, they asked if we could find a solution. We designed a new retirement dwelling within a 1980s workshop and stable block opposite the listed cottage, and negotiated the approvals required for this new dwelling in the AoNB. The new house has 2 bedrooms each with an ensuite and uses the existing envelope of the workshop, with a small extension to minimise the change of footprint. New glazing and bays are added to the existing building to make the most of the views across the adjacent orchard.
